Crowsnest election candidates come forward

Election Candidates Interviewed

Our gal Joni MacFarlane from the now defunct Crowsnest Promoter is back covering our municipal election.

In the Crowsnest Voice she has the following to say having yesterday interviewed at the municipal office with those filing their Nomination papers many of the candidates running in this election.

Read all about it here.

John, does Dave Filipuzzi still work for the Muni? Can you give me the names of the old councillors that try again. Ask Joni to ask Shar and Bill why they don’t mention she being the manager of Community Futures and he sitting on its board. He mentions the Ratepayers (no money here, but lots of money at c,f.) but not c.f.? If you’re looking to control the cash you don’t talk about it then no one sees it?

  2. Anonymous says:

The Minister responsible for Community Futures said “They are responsible to the Community they serve”. What community do you believe the CNP C.F. serves? The council is suppose to be the watch dog for those C.F. to make sure the public money is dispersed according to the fixed criteria. If BILL and SHAR get elected they will be their own watch dog. Having two votes with a compliant mayor will be very convenient.

Why did they not disclose to Joni in their interview with her their potential conflict of interest? The Public should not be keep in the dark and fed manure. We the people have to inform ourselves of what is going on. We’ve been screwed long enough by our local C.F.!! If we wait for the politicians to inform us we will be out of luck. All those back room meetings give you an idea of what they want you to NOT know.

Vote for John and find out what they’re hiding from you… and to keep them honest.

The way things are shaping up it looks like we’re going to toss out one set of bums for a new set of bums with different faces.

  4. Anonymous says:

That’s why it is important to google everyone’s name. It should tell everything like which boards they are on. I know with the Community Futures bunch it is really hard to find out. I remember seeing the Board I think on this site a while back.
John, are you privy to it and could you post it.
Again, it is up to you to do your homework on these people.

  5. Dgr says:

Its funny no one cared about who was on the Cf before. Is someone crying because they were turned down for a loan?

  6. dgr says:

Its funny no one cared who was on the cf board last election.Did someone get turned down for a loan?

  7. Anonymous says:

It was already pointed out, it is a conflict of interest. They are in charge of dispersing the money.
    What’s not to understand.

I think we should get another petition started on October 22. (WE NEED THESE PEOPLE REMOVED) whoever they end up being….Top notch, first class, Crowsnest Pass

“I think we should get another petition started on October 22.”

I agree. Start another Ratepayer group to get rid of this self-serving group now that is organizing a coup to take over our municipal government in order to take us back in time while causing further division ensuring ‘dissolution’ becomes inevitable.

  10. Anonymous says:

I see dissolution mentioned again. Just a quick question for everyone… Am I the only one who thinks that might actually be a good thing? Become the town of CNP in the MD of Pincher Creek? Have real dollars being put into the region to promote tourism and build infrastructure/facilities? Please fill me in on the reasons this would be bad, maybe I’m missing something obvious. Sorry, sentimental reasons don’t count.

ARE they board of Directors of Community Futures of CNP?
Or they are Board of Directors of the Society that operate the Cfdc?
    Very two different animal.
One you have to be elected the other one your friend sneak in in the middle of the night.

  13. Anonymous says:

6:39 “they are in charge of dispersing the money” we know that part. The part we don’t know are they doing it according to the rules? I don’t think so because no one is permitted to know what is going on with Public money. Mr. Bill Kovach should be able to tell the Public what happen to those shares in that society that operated our C.F. under the name of our past Mayor John Irwin. If you don’t know its because you weren’t informed. You can ask Shar as all the paper work goes through her before it gets to the directors. Is Bill a real Director or does he just fill the seat that no one with good intentions gets it? I am very concerned of their attitude of wanting to control everything. I would not call him and her hypocrites but they are the closest thing to it. No one can serve two masters. Either you sit on council or with CF but not both.

No, people should not be able to run if they have conflict of interest. What is going on?
Do not vote for them. Do research. But, a lot of people I know don’t even have computers. Spread the word!!

wonder why the ratepayers are still meeting??

they are all getting elected in a month, it was a well run election campaign on their part.

who knew a petition would work better than signs on every corner to get votes.

  21. Anonymous says:

Really said that the ratepayers fooled people big time.
I feel sorry for all the people that worked really hard for the petition and now this. Do they feel duped, or did they know this is what would happen. Again, Bill might be a “nice” guy, but councillor. I guess he is a real control freak.

  22. Anonymous says:

What stupidity to think this bunch of Ratepayers will govern us better than the bunch that is in now. If people would just open their eyes and do a little digging they will see for themselves that’s not going to happen. Just take Bill and Shar alone never mind the treachery of Dean all being led by a Blair… give me a break. At lest the other bunch has real leader and worked for the betterment of the community whereas this group will be self-serving from the get go. A disaster in the making for sure. Pass residents deserve better but will get worse because stupidity seems to run rampant through the ranks here.

Anon sept 21@9:21am Give your head a shake. The present group is a disaster. A real leader in Decoux, you’ve got to be kidding. A dictator is what he is. His vision has put us into the poorhouse.

Several ratepayers may get elected but we should have a good cross section, hopefully not too many of the present Councillors. Then we can get about business where we the people have a voice and some meetings to attend. Participatory democracy where the common folk have a voice.

  27. Anonymous says:

    9:33
It is you who can’t be serious in thinking Blair can measure up to a Decoux in the leadership department never mind Prince. Those others in the Ratepayers like Bill and Dean (defacto Mayor) never mind Shar will lead him around by the nose and he won’t even realize it and when he does it will be to late as he doesn’t have a pair. You won’t find that with Decoux and certainly not with Prince.

Bill, Shar, Blair for example equals “common folk”? You really are out to lunch! They wouldn’t know “common folk” if they tripped over them and they certainly wouldn’t be working for their best interests, that’s been proven and for sure.

9:33 it is you and your kind that will support these people only to take us out of the frying pan and into the fire. You people here are sooo stupid. It just amazes me.

Oct.22 the start of a new petition for we will be in worse trouble with this self-serving special interest group than what we have now.

What’s the answer? A combination of both? No! A new beginning with Prince and a band of like-minded individuals (regardless of class status) is the only practical solution to solve all our many problems, including the threat of dissolution.

  28. Anonymous says:

    9:54
Shar is but a lackey for the establishment types with Bill being one of them, and Blair exploits poor people and keeps them down with his businesse’s minimum wage policy. I agree, these people are far from “common folk”.

Is it not Bill’s group that just got $150K of our local tax dollars for more parties for the elites and granite monuments for next year’s 100 year celebration of the Hillcrest Mine Disaster from our council? More money for the dead at the expense of the living is these people’s priorities for they care not about “common folk”.

Yet, it will be the poor “common folk” here that will put these elite people in office to exploit them… again. Over and over again. Can they not see what is so obvious for anyone with eyes to see? What fools!

  29. Anonymous says:

Decoux is not a leader. Decoux is a government bureaucrat. We just made a mistake and he proves it for us at council meetings and in his Mayor’s Corner.

  30. Anonymous says:

9:54 and 10:13 am. As soon as a person is elected, he/she is no longer a “common folk” but let’s hope that he/she represents the many of us who are common folk.

In your scenario, the mayor would be led around by the Coucillors like a puppet. Now the Councillors are but puppets for the mayor. What is better, having 6 people decide a vote or one dictator telling the what the vote is.

You have so far slammed Blair, Bill, Shar and Dean, and not the present Councillors and mayor. So that means you support the status quo, except for mayor. We can then get more CNP entrance signs, wine and cheese parties, consultant studies and hire more administrators. Just who does that leave to vote for if the present mayor and councilor are nixed?

Looks like either way we are screwed in your scenario. So just who are the common folk on the candidate list?

  31. Anonymous says:

    10:28
For a guy you claim is not a leader he sure managed to make the Ratepayers look like incompetent fools, while successful pushing through his agenda with the loyal support of a faithful and true council, now didn’t he?

Voting for name not knowing the man was a stupid mistake which this community seems to make a lot of. Are they about to do it again? Wouldn’t surprise me one bit for stupid is as stupid does.

  32. Anonymous says:

He did not make the Ratepayers look like fools. Reading the report carefully you will see the municipal office and administration is in disarray and Mayor cannot communicate with the community. The report is written using a bureaucratic language Bruce understands very well. Some people may miss few of these details in the report, but not our Mayor.

  33. Anonymous says:

    11:14
“He did not make the Ratepayers look like fools.”

What did the Ratepayer Executive accomplish? Absolutely nothing! Except self-promotion for what they were really after, a seat on council. Those are the facts and they are indisputable.

The rest of what you say I cannot argue with you there.

  34. Anonymous says:

    10:40
“What is better, having 6 people decide a vote or one dictator telling them what the vote is.”

What a silly question for a community led by John Irwin for two decades who was the epitome of a dictator. Now you say Decoux is one too. What a surprise? And your point is? My point is you have to have strong leadership which Decoux and Prince exemplify whereas Painter is sorely lacking as exemplified by his (mis)handling of the fire department issue and lack of a track record. He’s not a leader, at best he’s a follower and worst yet a conformist lackey as proven during the former mayor’s many years mismanaging this community.

“So that means you support the status quo…”

I do NOT support the status quo, nor do I think our next council should be made up of self-serving individuals having their own secret agendas working for the best interests of special interest groups rather than those of ALL residents here.

“Just who does that leave to vote for if the present mayor and councilor are nixed?”

That I believe is what another commenter meant when he said “we’re screwed!”

“So just who are the common folk on the candidate list?”

I’ll tell you who is NOT “common folk” as that is a much shorter list:

    Bill
    Shar
    Blair
    Decoux
    Gallant
    Lonsbury

These people don’t give a sh** about the ordinary person (their track records attest to this) and in fact they keep themselves extremely busy screwing them every chance they get, while taking care of them and their friends in the process. And that is why with these people running things as before we will never get out of the hole they have buried us in. It serves their purpose so why would they?

No one is ever happy in CNP. Way too much dwelling on the past. So much negativity. Remove the blinders and stop the tunnel vision.

Maybe Pincher Creek is thriving because they have open minded and future thinking people.

  36. Anonymous says:

Look around to see who the Elitists here really are, and most are on the Public Dole with either good inflation indexed pensions and good salaries, all paid for without regard for where the money comes from. They run in their own crowd, and scoff at those they serve. The rest of us are but a cash cow to pay for the runaway spending. They could care less who suffers. If Decoux is reelected, it will get worse. And certainly no better with Blair and his crowd.

Folks, time to really reflect. Vote for who you think will get us back on track. All of the muckraking of any and all candidates is just that. Vote in a cross section of the Pass residents, who will do good for all. We need to live within our means and not be taxed to the point of poverty. Think about the fixed income home owners and people, and forget about the fat cat Elitists whose dreams we fund.

  37. Anonymous says:

Time to vote for “none of the above”.

  38. Anonymous says:

10:50 “to much dwelling on the past” Excuse me but your comment doesn’t make any sense? You elect people on their past track record, don’t you? Correct me if I am wrong. If you don’t vote for some people that’s because they had a bad past track record, or none at all. Am I not correct? The one we have now did so bad that none of them deserve any respect, I mean in voting for them. We’re better off having a complete stranger than a friendly face that works against us. The more we look at the past the more snakes are discovered. Now it is to the point we can’t count how many snakes are in the pit.

11:44 You just mentioned a few like the most venomous, conniving and deceiving ones but don’t forget there are lot of other snakes who are also just as harmful to us. Be very, very careful.

The only place you can be at ease and in confidence is if you vote for JOHN PRINCE… No conflicts of interest. Nothing to hide. No personal agenda, just a plain, fair, upright, straight-shooter type of guy. How many of those other candidates can say the same or come up with those important Qualifications as what John has?

I disagree. There are so many great things going on in this community of communities, that I have a very disorganized home as a result of it. I see tons of people working together to create wonderful events and celebrations that rival municipalities all over this country. We do it with heart. It is overwhelming. Politics aside – we rock!
