…. to Council.
Some of my readers must think I have no life outside this blog and politics and therefore are available at their beck and call on this last long weekend of summer. Well, it turns out you are right. :-) Therefore, before I go out to cut the grass on my football-sized field of a yard…
A reader here who provided us with important new information in my last post More questions on our $50,000 payment for a Best Western franchise we don’t own has emailed me again with a request for action by either the Ratepayers or CNP Transparency… or by any other of our many readers here on this blog.
Give it a read here…
This is all in the name of open, transparent and honest government which leads me to an ask.
Before the ask, some perspective for the ask.
The current Russel Farmer report is past due and may be delayed further – perhaps until after the election.
The value of the report will be a function of the research they do and their conclusions.
Their research and conclusions may reflect the values of the RF staff who are former municipal employees and officials – not the values of the typical rate payer.
Yet, this whole issue is all about the typical rate payer – you and me.
Direct participation in research would provide unbiased information and serve to benchmark RF`s work.
A FOIP of all letters sent to the Mayor and Council, say in 2013, would help.
My ask to you is that you post this on your blog in the hope that the Ratepayers Association or your readers or the contributor who has the CNP Transparency Blog will lead some direct research – FOIPs of correspondence to Council.
It will be interesting to learn what has been asked of the Mayor and Councillors and how they have responded.
As I understand protocol today Council and or Administration picks and chooses which letters they include in council reports and whether or not they respond to letters.
A productive outcome from a sustained FOIP campaign would be to ensure a policy of transparency and responses to all communication to Council and the Mayor.
A good challenge for all fall candidates for office would be – will you publish publicly and respond to all letters to Council.
Please edit this as you will.
Somebody has to do something, and it’s just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us.
