The Truth About Canada

Canada’s favorite nationalist Mel Hurtig doesn’t hold back in this discussion on what’s really been happening in Canada for the past forty years. Filmed during Mel’s 2008 tour supporting his latest book, “The Truth About Canada”, you will be shocked and saddened to hear the truth about Canada.

I posted about this earlier this year here but think with everything that is going on right now with the Occupy Movements in Canada that it is worth repeating, so that people are given the opportunity to wake up to the fact on how our country is being taken over (sold out) and why most people don’t even know it (Canada has the highest percent of corporate media ownership than any other country in the OECD i.e. “the most concentrated in the world”).

Two of the book’s most powerful themes: the failure of Canadian big business to turn record profits into ongoing investment in our country, and (no coincidence) the sellout of our assets at a rate that no other country would allow.

We have far more to fear from an unaccountable government at home than from any foreign terrorist.

In social spending as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product, Canada is in 25th place out of 30.

In most western European countries low-paid jobs are between 8% and 12% of the total; in Canada they make up 21% of all jobs.

The 1990s saw the highest rate of unemployment in Canada of any decade since the great depression.

Corporate profits: in 1992 before taxes they were 4.7% of GDP. In 2006 they were up to 13.9% of GDP, the highest in history…Since 1990, the average after inflation increase in hourly earnings until 2006 was only 10 cents.

In January 2007 the top 100 Canadian CEOs made between $2.87 million and $74.82 million. Meanwhile, the average Canadian worker earned about $38,000 a year and the average person working for a minimum wage made $15,931 a year.

In 2005, over $22.3 billion of foreign controlled corporate profits left Canada, mostly for the US.

John: First…who does Mr. Hurtig bank with? Second…he seems to be very concerned about selling his book at a good profit. you think Mr. Hurtig will donate his profits from his book to Child Proverty in Canada? Fouth….is Mr. Hurtig a multi millionaire? Why isn’t Mr. Hurtig setting up a fund for poor children in Canada using some of his millions. From this video, Mr. Hurtig seems to be interested in pushing his own adgenda. Yes..indeed everything he says is true but it is not something Canadians don’t already know. And, most of all, what are his solutions. It is very easy to criticise but very difficult to offer answers. Last, Mr. Hurtig like every other obscenely wealthy person in North America could be doing something useful with their money. In 1997, Wealthy South Koreans who had gold gave it to the then government, which took them immediately out of the deep recession they found themselves in due to Japan. However, obsessively wealthy North Americans are so greedy they would not ever consider doing something like that. You can talk about Gates and Warren all you want….where did they put some of their money?

Excuse me, but I really don’t give a shit about Mr. Hurtig and his motives, I’m only concerned in whether he is right or not. Is our country being sold out? Are we becoming serfs to foreign masters? Are we being exploited, our land and resources raped, while poverty rates grow and the people starve in the land of plenty? Are fascist traitors in charge of our nation? With the course we are on, are we heading for the abyss?

If so, then the Occupy Movement is a vehicle for change for those of us who have had enough with the banksters and gangsters running our world. Its time for them to get off… OUR world… ‘cause we, the 99%ers, are reclaiming it.

Buy you know, I have to disagree with you on “Yes..indeed everything he says is true but it is not something Canadians don’t already know”. I think most Canadians rely on msm for their view of the world, which as I’m sure you know can be pretty distorted from reality at times, if not down right lies like 9-11. Or how they went from complete blackout at the beginning, to circus, with respect to what is presently going on with the world-wide Occupy Movement. MSM are nothing but corporate shills for the 1%ers pushing their agenda. More people need to be made aware of this is what I’m saying. When that’s done we the people will be in a position to change things for the better, away from power and privilege to justice and truth again.

Interesting story on the South Koreans… thanks for sharing.

When you look at the facts , they speak for themselves.
The whole banking system controls us lock , stock and barrel.
We are sinking just like U.S.A. , just at a slower rate !
