For the Record

Subject: Pass Herald Q&A

I’m assuming you are an honest and reputable newspaper that would not stoop to sharing my answers with anyone, especially other mayoral candidates (through printed page, electronically or otherwise), until after the Herald is published on Tuesday. Failure to comply will result in my having to have you shot, once I assume the mayor’s chair. :-) Regardless what your ‘poll’ is forecasting. :-(

As one can plainly see the above was a good-natured gibe email I sent to Lisa Sygutek during the last municipal election.

Of course we will not share you answers. We have received John Salus’ and Bruce Decouxs’ answers earlier in the day. In fact we are not even proof reading the responses. As we receive them, we will put them in, typos included.

And as you can also plainly see by way of her response she took it as such…. until a plot was conceived and hatched.

A couple of days later after the above email exchange Lisa took the opportunity (now conveniently interpreting my email to her differently), to file a complaint with the RCMP stating she felt threatened by me as a result of this email and I was summarily called down to their office and grilled by her toadies (who apparently have a track record of being at her beck and call), who obviously had nothing better to do that day than go along with Lisa’s spur of the moment plan of harassment and intimidation (and eventual smear) against a political foe, using her position in the media to do so.

I later found out word was spread around town through email and social media of what she had done here, disparaging me in the process…. in the midst of an election campaign.

Now, with a new election upon us, last Thursday I sent the following email to Lisa.

Good Morning Lis,

If I send you a press release later today for your next edition on Sept. 17th can you assure me it will receive a favourable placement in your paper, as what Blair Painter received?

In so many words, I was basically told that since I wasn’t a “lucky spermer” (like her boy Blair and her), she couldn’t accommodate me. She being the publisher of our only newspaper in town, and now also our Returning Officer for the upcoming election.

Freedom of the press is limited to those who own one.

I’m telling people this because I want your reaction and opinion on whether or not, with just over a week to go before Nomination Day, you think I should run. Or do you feel as I do that democracy is dead in the Crowsnest Pass? Considering how the deck seems to be stacked against me…. again…. by those who believe in winning at all costs.

In the part of this universe that we know there is great injustice, and often the good suffer, and often the wicked prosper, and one hardly knows which of those is the more annoying.

John, please don’t let this interfere with your running. You MUST run! You represent us, what will we do if you don’t??? My grandfather used to say, “if you want some milk you buy a small cow. If you want more milk you buy a bigger one.” This is the biggest conflict of interest that has ever happened in the Pass. Manipulate DEMOCRACY should be Criminal. Giving a Public contract to a single newspaper owner in a small community is just disgusting. To be a Returning Officer you have to have NO STRINGS ATTACHED and be a person of integrity having no biases, especially political ones. The people that came up with this scam have no principles, no pride and no respect for our Community’s Democratic process. No shame, because being a LUCKY SPERMER for so long they believe they own the PASS. I will be reporting this to Municipal Affairs asap and encourage others to do the same.

Things do come back to bite us, and what one considers to be a joke may not be to another. One does not easily forget, which seems to be the case here. It’s still a free country. Guess you have to live with it, and make your decision. It appears that a lot of people do not like the lucky sperm reference you make — more than you think. Not a good platform to run on.

    Anon @12:52 & @2:47

You’re probably right. By speaking out and telling the truth as I see and understand it, I’ve alienated a lot of people. I could have played it safe and said nothing as what my opponents have been doing, considering that most people follow along like sheep and vote against someone rather than for someone. But I deliberately chose not to go down that route of deceit and charlatanism. As the saying goes “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”

With respect to my running and winning. One choice is to assume the worst, and then you can be guaranteed that it’ll happen. The other is to assume that there’s some hope for change, in which case it’s possible that you can help to effect change. So I had two choices, one guarantees the worst will happen, the other leaves open the possibility that things might get better. Given those choices, a decent person doesn’t hesitate. I like to think I’ve grown to be a decent and honest person, and therefore my decision to run or not should be obvious.

    Anon @2:47
A lot of people look for excuses to follow along like sheep. It saves them from thinking.

I can’t stop the rumours from starting and I can’t really change people’s minds who believe them, all I can do is sit back and laugh at these narrow-minded people who have nothing better to do than talk about me, while blindly following along ready to vote in another lucky spermer that’ll take them nowhere.

Didn’t, all of council vote to appoint Lisa returning officer?

  9. Anonymous says:

Yes… please run, john…. for the good of the town… RUN! Get the arrogant gasbag out of office!

  10. Anonymous says:

    yes… pls run

  11. Anonymous says:

3:45 They did not appoint Lisa, they gave her a Contract. When you’re appointed to something it’s free or on a community board or commission. Money, Bribe, Corruption = results. Interestingly Jerry Lonsbury was adamant that Marian Vanoni should not be the Returning Officer and pushed for Lisa to be chosen. What does this tell you???

  12. Anonymous says:

2:47 Give your head another shake. John’s platform is on his Web Site. This is his blog to make people like you think about our LUCKY SPERM problem, and it seems to work very good. They say the truth hurts and I believe it. If you refuse to think its up to you!!! You can’t stop the train your not at the controls. You better jump now if you are scared to be on a run-away train. Are you part of the problem or do you just don’t like the word? Lucky Spermer is here to stay… And it fits perfectly… “you have to live with it” You’re so scared you don’t live you just exist. Like a mushroom you wait to receive the manure. Who’s spreading it this week?

  13. Anonymous says:

John the locals will always stick together. It doesn’t matter whether they are lucky spermers or from the wrong side of the tracks(bushtown), the reason being that they are all related and therefore of one mindset, the gene pool is all interrelated and all that can be hoped for is that there are enough nubies that can see that something is wrong here., and hopefully things will change if outsiders can take a stance and will do the right thing.

  14. Anonymous says:

Interrelated, sometimes that causes problems with people’s thinking for sure. Genetically.

  15. Anonymous says:

Ah, now we have an interrelated gene pool, from which some aspire to great heights and others end up on the wrong side of the tracks. Last I’ve seen, Bushtown has some very nice digs. Can’t say the outsiders are so brilliant either.

To counter all of this we need nubies to facilitate change and we need the outsiders to get the change done. But wait, aren’t the outsiders in the administration and several in council causing the problems. What a circle game, with no end in sight.

To 5:39 pm, which John are we really voting for. The one on his web site or the one on his blog. That is where it all comes unhinged and leaves some wondering.

  16. Anonymous says:

    Yes, please run!

  17. Anonymous says:

There are only 2 people that are in actual control of everything that gets decided here. The rest are only there to do these 2 peoples biddings, and these 2 are both hardcore locals.

Wait a minute my cousin lives in bushtown that’s insulting.

And your second cousin, his cousin and his cousin. LOL.

    Hi John,
I remain impressed with your passion for the CNP. A beautiful part of Alberta, friendly residents, lots of ‘mountain freedom’. But there is an ugly underbelly that can be felt through your blog. I don’t believe for a minute that the Returning Officer will ensure a fair and impartial election will be held in the CNP. The current politicos hijacked democracy in their first meeting

  22. Anonymous says:

I know that you are going to run, but watch your back. I believe that this election is going to bring out the worst in the CNP. You have annoyed the ‘good ol’ boys and gals’. I just want to say to you and Diane, stay strong, stay true to your passion.

  23. Anonymous says:

Well truthfully, the present council also ruffled the feathers of the good old boys, i.e., fire issue, etc.
And look what happened. So, this time they really want to get a good old boy back, so they can again run the area.

  24. Anonymous says:

John, please don’t change nothing, you doing good everything is on target on time they are panicking. They are so hungry for POWER they will start fighting each other soon. No respect whatsoever in greedy people land and they proved it many time. Example Executive of Ratepayers. Now you have them on the run you can relax a bit and wait for the next screw up. Just go deliver your nomination paper and wait for the SURPRISE.

To 10:51, that’s our job to watch John’s back. Don’t worry about Diane just send someone over to harass her take a picture before and one after that we can see the results.

  25. John Prince says:

    Anon @12:14
Nobody can harass Diane right now (unless nurses do it) cause she’s in the hospital since Friday. Rushed to Lethbridge yesterday for tests and is back in the Pass today. Blood clot in the lung that first went to her heart and back. Lucky it didn’t kill her.

She’s been in a lot of pain but she’s one strong woman, and like me a fighter. I’m sure she’ll pull through this. She better! She’s going to be my campaign manager.

  26. Anonymous says:

Oh my goodness, so sorry to hear about Diane. Prayers for her. Yes, you are definitely both very tough people.

  27. Anonymous says:

Diane this is not the time to fool around you want to get sick that will have to wait after the election.
What can we do without your advice?
    From your secret admirer!!

  28. Chloe says:

John, sending prayers and warm wishes tonight that Diane roars back to action ;) Great campaign managers are hard to find these days. Take good care.

  29. Anonymous says:

    please run for mayor, john

  30. John Prince says:

Thanks everyone for your warm wishes. I’ll be sure to pass them on to Diane when I see her later today. :-)

  31. Anonymous says:

Wait until you see this week’s Pass Herald John then you’ll know why she didn’t want you in her paper this week. It would have spoiled the ‘good old boys’ photo op.

By the way, doesn’t Lisa’s husband work for Coal Mountain??

  32. Anonymous says:

That Lisa is sure a piece of work, isn’t she. Just like her mother, preaching fire and brimstone, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

    On Saturday I wasn’t here
    and a computer I just wasn’t near,

    but if your asking,
    if you should run,

    My opinion is that…
    you’re the only one.

    Please do…..we need you!

(Get well Diane, we need you too,
John on his own, just wouldn’t do.)

You know why I like birds so much? They don’t just talk their story, they sing them.

You know why I like you so much? Because you’re an angel who is always there just when I need her.

    Thanks! :-)
