Trust you no more
By way of petition and word on the street the community has spoken… “We don’t trust you no more”… is what they are saying.
Mayor, council and administration have lost the trust of the people… and yet they are still there? Have they no shame, no honour? What is their justification for remaining in office these elected officials of ours when no longer having the moral support of the people?
What makes them any different than the despots in the middle east who in the last couple of years have had their citizens rise up en mass in protest to how they managed things. Are our citizens rights and demands any different? Do we too not have rulers who refuse to govern as we ask, and failing to do so, to leave after being told their services are no longer wanted or required?
In the States they have recall and everyone from mayor, councils, congressmen and senators are subject to it. Here we have a petition to a Minister that can easily be ignored by his higher level of government, more despotic and tyrannical it seems than the one below.
What are citizens to do? Doomsayer says, “rise up and fight”. Others say, “do nothing and wait for the next election”. I say, “there is something wrong with our system when people have no recourse but to fight or play dead”.
When leaders loose moral authority to govern with no recourse to change things then there is no democracy, there is only tyranny by the few over the many.
When a mayor and council can simply ignore a petition signed by a majority of electors without so much as an open debate in council, or a public debate in a Town Hall meeting, then something more is required to get their and their masters attention.
That something usually means civil disobedience. If the Minister chooses to ignore our petition, or play games, then that ultimately might be our last recourse. Unless, of course, residents here choose to play dead?
“Humans are endowed to a higher degree than animals of any other species with two precious faculties – the power to think and the desire to rebel.”
What say you, good citizens of the Pass? Will you play dead, or will you fight!
The duty of a patriot is to protect his country (municipality) from its government.
