Iran has demonstrated that if you attack them the cost will be extraordinarily high, says Scott Ritter. In the case of Israel it could be terminally high.

Scott Ritter, the former UN weapons inspector, said in an interview Sunday that Iran was clever in its retaliatory attack over the weekend because it sent a clear message to Israel and the U.S. that it has the military capacity to strike any target it wants in the region.

Scott Ritter, the former UN weapons inspector, said in an interview Sunday that Iran was clever in its retaliatory attack because it sent a message to the U.S. and Tel Aviv that it has the military capacity to strike any target inside Israel.

“All the Israelis have to do is look at a map, look at where the Iranian missiles hit, and understand that the Iranians hit that which they were aiming at and there was nothing Israel could do to stop those missiles from reaching their target,” he told British MP George Galloway’s “Mother of All Talk Shows.”

Ritter noted that Israel has one of the world’s most advanced missile systems and benefited from support from the U.S., the UK, and France. He noted that Iran started the attack by launching its slowest, loudest weapons in its arsenal, Shahed drones. He said Iran did that to alert Israel and its allies that the attack had started.

“Iran was saying, ‘Here we come. Shoot us down.’ And they did,” he said, noting that Iran launched tens of millions of dollars worth of drones while Washington and Israel spent billions shooting them down.

“This is a financial occasion that’s unsustainable and that was one of the points that Iran was making,” Ritter said.

“I call this one of the greatest military demonstrations in modern history because by doing what they did, Iran not only put Israel into check, but, believe it or not, they have created a foundation for peace instability in the Middle East” by eliminating options that Israel and the U.S. could have been planning down the road – like a preemptive strike on a nuclear facility.
